Unjani Clinic & hearX® improve access to affordable hearing testing

Unjani Clinic is constantly exploring new ways to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients. From ensuring affordable pricing to introducing innovative primary healthcare services, our patients are at the very heart of everything we do.

Inspired by our mission to bring the best in quality, affordable healthcare to those who need it most, we launched a hearing testing pilot programme in 2022. After seeing the success of the programme, we are rolling this offering out to a total of 77 clinics across South Africa.

Loss or deterioration of hearing can have a profound impact on a person’s quality of life. From fewer educational and job opportunities, to social withdrawal and reduced access to services, less-than-optimal hearing can have far-reaching effects on patients’ everyday lives.

Regular hearing testing is therefore crucial, allowing nurses to catch any loss of hearing early so they can refer them to the relevant specialist, ensuring that the right course of treatment is followed.

To make hearing testing as easy and accessible as possible, Unjani Clinic has partnered with hearX®, an innovative, impact-driven digital health company that is passionate about providing affordable access to healthy hearing for everyone, everywhere.

The 77 selected clinics have been equipped with hearScreen® technology, an award-winning mobile hearing screening audiometer. The solution includes a user-friendly design , automated test protocols, and quality control features for quick and accurate hearing screening from a smartphone.

Nurses at the selected clinics will receive training to ensure that they can perform accurate tests and refer their patients to the relevant specialist. This means that our patients now have access to quality, affordable hearing testing for just R50 per test, giving them the opportunity to catch any problems early and to take charge of their hearing health.

We are extremely excited about this expansion of hearing testing services, and look forward to rolling this programme out to all our clinics as soon as possible.

Please note: Our hearing testing services are designed to quickly and efficiently screen a large number of individuals within a clinic environment, identifying those who may require further diagnostic evaluation or intervention. These services are not used for occupational hearing testing.
